Water pumps
The water pump is an essential part of an internal combustion engine, since it circulates coolant throughout the engine block. That is why CIC has developed water pumps that meet the highest quality standards demanded by engine manufacturers.
CIC water pumps are strong and durable: they withstand daily use in extreme conditions, allowing high mileage without operating problems and preventing overheating and any damage caused by high temperatures. They are designed to run quietly and require little maintenance.
The design of CIC water pumps allows efficient flow under every engine operating condition, keeping engine temperature within the design operating range so combustion efficiency is as high as possible. The pump’s operating efficiency comes from the design of both the internal housing and the impeller, which minimizes hydraulic losses and blade cavitation.
CIC water pumps feature a latest-generation seal:
- Stainless-steel housing.
- Boron-carbide static seal (the second-hardest material known), giving very high wear resistance and heat resistance close to 1,400 °C.
- Graphite rotating seal, with high wear resistance, high lubricity and heat resistance close to 800 °C.
Requirements for correct installation and operation of a CIC water pump:
- Before installing the CIC water pump, the housing in the engine block must be cleaned completely.
- Before installing the CIC water pump, check the flatness of the mounting surface on the engine block.
- Lubricate the O-ring.
- Always use the specified tightening torque and follow the fastening sequence to avoid misaligning the pump shaft.
- Use the coolant specified by the engine manufacturer (using water as coolant is prohibited).
- Turn the pump shaft at least 10 turns to create the dynamic seal. Failing to do so will allow coolant to leak through the weep hole.
- On engines where the pump is driven by the timing system, replace the water pump whenever the timing system is replaced.
