Piston Rings

Engine-code-specific ring sets: perfect compression, low oil consumption and superior sealing.

  • ISO 6621-3 certified materials
  • Set specific to each engine reference
  • Minimum friction, maximum service life

CIC piston rings

CIC manufactures a wide range of piston rings to meet the needs of the engine repair market. Piston rings work as a set (ring kit): compression or top ring, scraper or second ring, and oil-control rings. That is why CIC ring sets are built specifically for each engine reference and engine code.

CIC piston rings are designed and manufactured to strictly meet the design conditions demanded by the engine: high fuel efficiency thanks to their sealing and heat-transfer capacity; excellent oil control to keep oil consumption below the allowed limit; and surface hardness matched to the cylinder wall hardness so friction is as low as possible, keeping friction losses to a minimum and allowing a long service life.

CIC piston rings use premium materials certified and accepted by engine manufacturers in compliance with ISO 6621-3. This guarantees a successful repair.

For correct operation and service life of CIC piston rings, the following technical conditions must be maintained in the engine:

  • The cylinder bore must be within the standard range established in the service manual.
  • The clearance between the piston and the cylinder wall must not be less than the value established in the service manual.
  • The surface finish of the cylinder wall (honing) must meet the honing angle and roughness specified by the engine manufacturer.
  • Do not use oversize rings if the cylinder bore does not have that same nominal diameter.
  • Rings must never be cut to fit the cylinders.
  • Side clearance in the piston groove must be within the range given in the service manual.
